Western Cape Covid-19 numbers down to efficient testing – Zille
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Democratic Alliance (DA) federal council chairperson Helen Zille says the Western Cape’s newfound status as the epicentre of the Covid-19 outbreak comes as no surprise.
The Western Cape has the highest number of coronavirus-related deaths in the country.
A total of 28 people have died in the Western Cape compared to the 27 in KwaZulu-Natal, while it also has the most confirmed cases.
Speaking on the DA’s Facebook page on Friday, Zille said the latest statistics are the result of efficient testing.

"The only purpose of a hard lockdown is to win time to prepare for the onslaught ahead.
"Now, the important question is what do you to win time? The most thing to do is to test so you work out the rate of infection and also, crucially, the rate of building out the antibodies.”
Zille added: "The one thing that the Western Cape has got right is the testing. They are doing at least three or four times the amount of testing than any other province as much as I'm aware.
"So it's actually a function of an efficient system, rather than a place where there is no control of the virus.”
