Western Cape disaster management expecting more fires
Updated | By Suné du Toit
The Disaster Management and Fire Brigade Services in the Western Cape say they are expecting more fires in the Eden District Municipality, after days of raging fires in the Knysna area.
Hundreds of houses and properties have been destroyed and thousands of people displaced since the fires started earlier this week as a result of strong winds brought on by cold fronts moving through the province.
Disaster Management and Fire Brigade Services Chief Director Colin Deiner says they are expecting more fires today.
"We've got a prediction for gale force winds today. Early this morning the winds came up around the Buffelsbaai area and as a precaution we have evacuated the farms around Buffelsbaai. Not Buffelsbaai itself - we have moved the people into Buffelsbaai," says Deiner.
Deiner says they expect a lot of fires today.
