Premier Alan Winde says the province has made headway in its fight against Covid-19.

He believes the province now has capacity to open its economy entirely.

“We have taken apposition now that we have sufficient health capability to manage Covid-19 patients with the province, we have flattened the curve sufficiently that we would support now the opening of the economy safely.”

Winde says his cabinet will also motivate for alcohol to be sold domestically.

According to province’s latest data metro hospitals are 69% full, down from 71% the week before.

“The Hospital of Hope, which has a capacity of over 800 beds, has 91 patients admitted; the Brackengate Field Hospital which has a capacity of over 330 beds, has 47 patients admitted;  the Thusong Centre, which has a capacity of 60 beds, has 20 patients admitted.

“We have sufficient hospital bed space to deal with alcohol-related trauma, as well as the Covid-19 response so in that regard we need to be able to open up and save jobs.”

Winde says he has written to national government and hopes to meet with the Covid-19 Command Council soon.

“I will now be engaging at the President’s coordinating council level, as well as with the Minister of Cogta and Minister of Health.”
