Police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk said that on Tuesday morning at about 1:10 members of Operation Combat stopped and searched four males in Rietbok Avenue in Lotusriver.

“The members found a 9mm pistol with serial number filed off and a magazine filled with 10 x 9mm live ammunition in one of the suspect’s possession,” Van Wyk said. “The 24-year-old suspect, affiliated with the ‘6 bob gang’ was arrested on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of ammunition and possession of a prohibited firearm.”

On Monday police recorded a number of drug successes which led to the seizure of various quantities of drugs, cash and the arrest of five suspects.

At about 9:33am on Monday operations were held by different law enforcement agencies in Ottery after receiving information of a residence selling drugs at Pieter Court.

“Upon arrival at the residence, members noticed a male hiding a blue container at the back of the residence. Upon investigation, 239 packets of tik and an undisclosed amount of cash was found. The 46-year-old male suspect was arrested on charges of dealing and possession of drugs.”

At 3pm, Grassy Park Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) members received information about a residence in Lake Road, Grassy Park, that was dealing in drugs and upon arrival, members chased two females coming from the house after they started running when they saw the police.

“One large zip lock plastic bag containing about 300g of dagga, eight sachets dagga, one silver scale and a undisclosed amount of cash was confiscated,” Van Wyk said. “Three suspects, aged 21, 27 and 29 respectively, were arrested on charges of dealing and possession of drugs.”

At around the same time, CPU members received information about a residence in 8th Avenue where dagga plants were being cultivated in the backyard.

“Upon arrival, members confiscated 22 dagga plants, bottles of plant feed and 50 grams of dagga. A 28-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of dagga.”

All the arrested suspects are due to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court soon.
