Western Cape police arrest over 300 suspects during blitz by Nyanga cluster

Cape Town police said on Sunday its Nyanga cluster had arrested more than 300 suspects during during various anti-crime blitzes during the past week.

Provincial police said operations had been conducted in Bishop Lavis, Elsies River, Guguletu, Manenberg, Nyanga and Philippi East.

Police documented arrests and successes as follow:
194 suspects apprehended during searches conducted at 55 drug houses as well as during stop-and- searches.
43 shebeen operations conducted which led to 26 people arrested for dealing in liquor without licences and 1356.19 litres of liquor confiscated.
Seven tracing operations conducted and 33 wanted suspects arrested.
43 suspects apprehended for crimes committed against women and children.

 

According to police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk, six stolen vehicles were recovered in Bishop Lavis, Guguletu, Nyanga and Philippi East.

 

He said suspects were apprehended for cases ranging from murder, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm(GBH), attempted murders, robbery, possession of stolen property and other various cases.

 

Police confiscated 66g of heroine, 308 units of tik, 628.5 mandrax tablets and 155636g of dagga.

 

Six firearms were also confiscated and five suspects apprehended for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

 

Three firearms were confiscated in Manenberg and the rest In Elsies River, Guguletu and Phillipi East police said.

 

“These successes are a result of the member’s diligence and vigilance and some were through information shared by responsible community members,” Van Wyk said.
