Western Cape spike continues to be highest for new Covid-19 cases

Western Cape continues to account for the most daily new Covid-19 infections in South Africa and has for a fourth consecutive day reported more than Gauteng.

2333 new cases were picked up in the province on Sunday.
Gauteng recorded 2 040, making it the second province with the highest cases.
South Africa has recorded a total of 8 791 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the country’s total cases to 2 456 184.
The NICD says the positivity rate stands at 23%.
A further 178 Covid-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 72 191.
There has been an increase of 204 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours, a decrease in the number of people sent to the hospital on Saturday.
There are currently 15 641 people receiving treatment in both private and public facilities.
On the vaccine front, 17 390 vaccines were administered on Sunday.
