Winde calls for NCCC to ease restrictions on Western Cape

Western Cape Premier Alan Winde says the province has reached its peak and the active coronavirus cases are steadily declining.
Winde says he has written to the National Command Council (NCCC) requesting an easing of the restrictions.
Winde updated the media on the trends of the coronavirus pandemic in the province on Tuesday afternoon.
He was joined by the head of the provincial health department, Dr Keith Cloete.
Cloete affirmed the province’s improving trajectory.
He said positive cases have dropped by 21% week-on-week, with a plateau in hospital admissions and deaths.
Winde said the province is now at a place to deal with the other pandemic; poverty.
He called for beaches to be reopened and the curfew shortened.
Winde had also called for easing the ban on the sale of alcohol.
"We need to now, because we have gone beyond the curve, we need those regulations and open up the beaches so that those jobs can start to claw back what they have lost over the last few weeks.
“As part of our request is to see a change in curfew, we will suggest back to 22:00 and perhaps the sale of alcohol in our restaurants will be at 22:00 for 23:00 curfew.
Winde cautioned residents that the drop in numbers is not a license to drop the ball.
