Winter’s coming: More chilly nights expected, warns SAWS

The South African Weather Service has predicted more warm days and chilly nights during April as the winter creeps ever closer.

Forecaster Lehlohonolo Thobela says the daytime temperatures will remain relatively high for now.
“We are in autumn now and it has gone into having nights that are chillier than what we used to get more especially now that it is kind of a knock into the winter where temperatures are starting to drop to single digits especially minimum temperatures in the evening where you start having chilly nights.
“Most temperatures that are expected are to be cool but warming up over the southwestern parts by Sunday. We are still having cool to warm temperatures for the whole week, spreading up to Monday and Tuesday next week. most of the eastern parts of the country will still experience warm temperatures especially over KwaZulu-Natal and spreading to the northern parts of the country to Limpopo up to about 30 degrees Celsius.”
Wednesday evening was the coldest night so far this year.
“It is mainly the minimum temperatures that seems to be cooling down as we expect the autumn season which will be between April and May to expect warm days but chilly and more colder evenings which is what people are starting to experience especially over highveld areas and most areas in the central and eastern parts of the country,” said Thobela.
