The restaurant hit the headlines when rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his celebrity chef friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane were gunned down while leaving the eatery in February.

The company says the shooting led to a severe downturn in business.

Co-director Philani Kweyama says the food outlet will officially close down on 10 April with a special service called "The Last Supper".

"In light of the recent tragic event on our doorstep we have experienced a severe downturn in business which leaves the directors with no other choice but to close the business permanently as the brand equity of Wish On Florida has been deeply hindered.

"Wish On Florida was certainly a wish come true for two black entrepreneurs who dedicated the last three years to building a successful black-owned restaurant in the heart of Durban.

"We would like to thank the city of Durban for the tremendous support in the last three years-catering to you and the rest of the country has been an absolute joy and your support will forever be engraved on Wish On Florida's legacy."

Kweyama says they have no choice but to let go of the staff too who had been employed by the eatery.

"To our staff members who are the fabric that held Wish On Florida together - this was not an easy decision. Our efforts to keep our doors open to ensure the security of your employment has been difficult, and unfortunately, the above mentioned has led to an untimely farewell.

Last week police confirmed that the suspects involved in the shooting are still at large.
