Witness did not hear cricket bat
Updated | By Lonwabo Miso
A witness who claimed to have heard Reeva Steenkamp screaming before she was shot dead by Oscar Pistorius said she did not hear Pistorius's cricket bat banging against a door.
Michelle Burger was testifying in Pistorius's murder trial in the High Court in Pretoria.
Barry Roux, for Pistorius, questioned Burger on whether she could not have mistaken the bashing of the door with the bat for gunshots.
Burger maintained that all she heard were gunshots.
"I'm sure the sound of a gunshot is louder than a cricket bat," said Burger.
Burger lived at the Silverstream Estate, which is next to Silver Woods Country Estate, the complex where Pistorius shot and killed Steenkamp.
The balcony of her home was approximately 177 metres from Pistorius's bathroom window.
Pistorius shot Steenkamp through the locked bathroom door. He claimed he had mistaken her for an intruder.
He reportedly then bashed the door open, using a cricket bat.
