Wits extends suspension of classes
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
The Senior Executive Team of the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) on Friday said that all University operations will remain suspended until further notice.

This decision was taken after consultation with the Executive Committee of Council.
"If conditions conducive to the delivery of the academic programme do not improve, Wits may have to consider the closure of the University, including the residences in the interests of the safety and security of our staff, students and property," it said in a statement.
Wits students embarked on protest action following the announcement by Higher Education and Training Minister Blade Nzimande that institutions of higher learning will determine their own fee increments for the 2017 academic year.
Students have since marched to Cosatu House to rally support in their call for free, quality education.
Wits said it will keep all stakeholders, including staff, students and parents informed on the suspension of University operations via official communication channels.
