Wits student leader arrested
Updated | By Olivia Phalaetsile
Police have confirmed the arrest of a student at Wits University.

Spokesperson Brigadier Sally De Beer, confirmed a 32-year old man was arrested at a Wits residence in the early hours of Sunday morning.
“The suspect is being processed at the Cleveland police station and will appear in court shortly,” she said.
De Beer says the man was arrested in connection with ongoing investigations into violence, criminality and intimidation during the protests for free higher education.
The police confirmation comes hours after Wits student leader Mcebo Dlamini posted about his arrest on Facebook.

Wits University spokesperson Shirona Patel also confirmed the arrest of a student leader, without revealing the name.
“We are not allowed to release the student’s name. This is an independent process and the university does not know what the charges are and when the student will be appearing in court."
Jacaranda FM news has been reliably informed that Dlamini has also been charged with assaulting a police officer.
