The suspended students have been accused of “disrupting classes, for violating the rights of members of the Wits community and for malicious damage to property”.
Wits spokesperson Shirona Patel says some students received final warnings.
"There are several others who will be suspended or who may receive warnings this week for their role in the protest.
"We must be clear that we have not taken disciplinary action against the students who were protesting peacefully, these are students who have either violated the rights of others, who have damaged property or who have disrupted classes."
