[WATCH] Fees Must Fall changed the way we see society: Kanya Cekeshe
Updated | By Neo Motloung
Convicted Fees Must Fall activist, Kanya Cekeshe, says the movement illustrated how individuals could bring the state of its knees when united behind one cause.
Cekeshe was released on parole after serving two years in prison at the Leeuwkop Correctional Centre in Johannesburg.
He was found guilty of setting alight a police van in December 2017, but was granted special remission by President Cyril Ramaphosa in late 2019.
Cekeshe believes the failure of the movement is not understanding the state's tactics to weaken the Fees Must Fall movement.
"That was our failure, too much inhouse fighting, too many inhouse politics, too many things that were dividing us as individuals as much as we were untied behind one cause. All of those influences thrown in by the state, using the state intelligence for example and leaders selling out for example," says Cekeshe.
