A 28-year-old woman is expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Thursday after she was arrested with cocaine and heroin with a street value of R870 000 at the Cape Town International Airport on Tuesday.
The woman, who is a foreign national, was travelling from Sao Paulo in Brazil to Cape Town.
She was caught by the Hawks, Crime Intelligence and the South African Revenue Services’ customs unit.
Authorities found more than 2,7 kg of cocaine and 200 grams of heroin concealed in her luggage and shoes.
"She was immediately placed under arrest and the drugs seized for further investigation, this is an indication of the capacity and capabilities of the joint security forces to decisively deal with the numerous attempts to use the airport as a thoroughfare for drug smuggling." said Hawks Western Cape head Mushavhaduvha Ramovha.
