Woman in serious condition, after car smashes through a roof

A woman has been taken to hospital in a serious condition, after her car smashed through the roof of a home in Newlands West this morning.
She had been driving in Earlsfield, when her car went through an intersection at Riverdene Drive.

"She was airborne with her vehicle and then landed through the roof of a house that was built at the lower level to the road. The car came to a standstill inside a newly built bedroom that was used as a storeroom, fortunately three children were in the next door bedroom playing," said Netcare 911's Chris Botha.
According to Botha, a number of emergency personnel had to be called to the scene in order to help free the badly injured woman from the wreckage.
"The rescue officers used the jaws-of-life, and had to remove the entire roof of the vehicle to be able to get her out of the vehicle," he said.
