A 28-year-old woman was stabbed 12 times by a group of men outside a shop in Orkney, North West on Friday, paramedics said.
It is believed the woman was approached by an unknown number of armed men as she was about to open her shop.
"They apparently forced her to open the shop and thereafter began stabbing her," said ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring.
The paramedics were called by the police. When they arrived they found the woman in a critical condition, lying in a pool of blood.
"The patient was treated for her multiple injuries and provided with advanced life support interventions. Once treated, the patient was transported to Life Anncron Hospital for further treatment," said Meiring.
Police were investigating the incident.
