Woman swept off Johannesburg bridge still missing

A woman was swept downriver off a low-water bridge yesterday evening near Third Road in Chartwell, north of Johannesburg.

ER24 paramedics, along with various services including SAPS, Rescue and provincial services arrived on the scene on Thursday to search for the woman.
According to ER24, rescue services searched into the late hours of the evening but later called off the search due to bad light.
"The search continued early this morning with rescue divers searching the water while ER24 and other services searched the bank," ER24 said.
Unfortunately, the woman was still missing.

It is understood that the woman attempted to cross the river in her car when the vehicle got pushed against the barriers.
"Members of her family joined the search and rescue teams," ER24 said.
Local authorities and emergency personnel were still on scene searching for woman.
