Women rescued from water drainage

Two women had to be rescued from a water drainage ditch in Clayville, Johannesburg, on Thursday, paramedics said.
The women were driving on Spanner Road when their car "fell into" a two metre deep ditch with a four metre wide opening, ER24 spokeswoman Luyanda Majija said.
Paramedics arrived on the scene and assisted fire department personnel who were helping the woman emerge from the hole.
The women had pulled themselves out of the car and were climbing out of the ditch using a ladder.
Paramedics treated the women who were in shock, for minor injuries and thereafter transported them to a nearby hospital for further medical care.

"The exact circumstances leading to the [accident] are unclear and the necessary investigations are underway."
