Woolworths launches drive-through service

Upmarket retailer Woolworths has launched a click and collect drive-through shopping service at 15 of its stores around the country.

The service allows customers to shop online and have their orders delivered without them having to leave their cars.

The first trial went live over the Easter weekend at the company’s Durbanville store in the Western Cape.

Woolworths’ Liz Hillock says the decision to expand the service was made due to the spike in online orders as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

"So how it works is you go onto our website, order your food items that you would like. There's the right catalogue to the right store. You pay online and you choose a collection slot.

“You then go to the store and park in one of our designated shopping bays and our shopping assistants are there to help you and they bring your shopping to your car," she explains.

Hillock says Woolworths is looking to expand the service to most of its stores nationwide.

"We plan to roll this out to even more stores. This is a good way to get customers what they need and as quickly as we can.”
