Woolworths: No listeria detected in recalled product

No listeria bacteria has been detected in the recalled frozen products from Woolworths.

The food retailer on Tuesday recalled the Frozen Savoury Rice Mix due to concerns over a listeria outbreak in Europe.
Woolworths' Karin Carstensen says the product is manufactured in Belgium using ingredients from Hungary.
"It's the Hungarian production site that has been implicated in the listeria outbreak in the EU," says Carstensen.
She adds the decision to recall the products is a precaution based on instructions of the European Union (EU).
Carstensen says the product has been tested and found to be compliant.

Dr. Juno Thomas from the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), says the listeria bacteria found in Europe is not similar to the one that caused over 200 deaths in South Africa since January 2017.
"The Hungarian Food Safety Agency released an alert to the global food industry after they have shut down the company and ordered an immediate recall of all those frozen vegetable products," says Thomas.
