Work on Gautrain line still underway
Updated | By ANA
Repair work to restore full Gautrain services between Pretoria and Hatfield are still underway, Gautrain spokesperson Kesagee Nayager said on Sunday evening.
“We expect to have power restored to one of the two tracks by the start of operations tomorrow morning [Monday] and in which case we will then operate a train shuttle service between Pretoria and Hatfield,” Nayager said in a statement.
Alternatively, if the technicians were able to restore power to both tracks over the course of Sunday night, then normal operations would commence as of Monday morning.
“If, however, a normal or partial service cannot be restored by the start of operations tomorrow [Monday], then the Gautrain bus service will continue to shuttle commuters between Pretoria and Hatfield. The situation is being closely monitored and we will keep commuters updated,” Nayager said.
The Gautrain service between the two stations was disrupted on Saturday morning when a catenary line was damaged. A truck accident on the highway caused a fence to fall over onto the catenary line. No trains were involved in the incident.
