The youth of today needs to emulate the youth of 1976: Sithole
Updated | By Slindelo Masikane
The sister of Hector Pieterson, Antoinette Sithole, told learners at Curro Roodeplaat on Wednesday that the youth of today needs to emulate the youth of 1976, by making positive changes in society in light of the 40th anniversary of June 16 1976.
Sithole recalled the events leading up to the Soweto uprisings and described the day, which she says, was a turning a point for the country.
"We just thought we were conveying the message, we did not know what the response would be from the government. So, we never knew that things would turn out the way they turned out, but all that blood that was shed - it does not matter whose blood - that was the turning point for us as South Africans," Sithole said.
Learners at the school say after listening to Sithole's story they now realize that they too can make a difference.
