Zandile Gumede trial pencilled for July 2022

The trial against former eThekwini mayor Zandile Gumede has been pencilled for 18 July 2022.
Gumede appeared at the Durban High Court on Monday where she faces graft charged for shaky Durban Solid Waste tender.
More than 20 other suspects were also in court, facing a total of 2700 corruption charges.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says the matter has been adjourned for 30 November to iron out pre- trial matters.
“Some of the accused changed legal teams which resulted in the court unable to deal with pre-trial management issues,” says NPA national spokesperson, Sipho Ngwema.
“Meanwhile, the NDPP has authorised the institution and addition of racketeering against the accused.”
Scores of supporters dressed in African National Congress (ANC) regalia gathered outside the court where a stage had been set for Gumede.
The accused, which include private entities and municipal officials, allegedly colluded in a waste collection tender totalling more than R430 million.
