The former Ukhozi FM presenter allegedly hurled abuse at Zikalala at an event held at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

In a statement, the premier's office says Zikalala was forced to leave the event early due to security concerns.

"In continuation of this widely publiciced mode of attack on the premier, yesterday Mchunu escalated this when he came over to the exclusive area where the premier was seated and started hurling insults at the premier.

"As a result, people nearby had to intervene. With the aid of security personnel, the premier had to leave the event. The premier stands ready and is duty-bound to exhaust all legal avenues to protect himself and the dignity of the office he occupies from unscrupulous and unwarranted attacks by individuals such as Mchunu."

Meanwhile, Mchunu also laid assault charges against the premier accusing him of being drunk during the altercation.

KwaZulu-Natal police have confirmed the two complaints are being investigated.
