Zikalala briefed the media in Durban on Sunday, alongside the province's Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu.

“It is individuals that transport and help the virus to travel to others. The success we have made in the first wave, can easily become our failure. The worst has not yet passed; it is with us," he said.

“We now have more knowledge and information on this virus than before what we see as the challenge or a key question is whether we are disciplined enough to adhere to the warnings that we save our lives or the lives of those of our loved ones.

“We ask our pastors, traditional leaders, mayors, councillors, community leaders and every citizen to play their parts and prohibit activities that may be super-spreaders."

KwaZulu-Natal is the province with the second highest number of active cases in South Africa, behind the Western Cape.
