On Tuesday the commission started with Zondo granting leaves for individuals to either cross-examine, give evidence and call witnesses.

Chief Justice Raymond Zondo granted Mantashe’s applications to give evidence at the commission, call witnesses and cross-examine Agrizzi.

Zondo also granted Mantashe leave to cross-examine Richard Le Roux, an employee of a Bosasa subsidiary, GTS - formerly known as Sondolo IT.

Earlier this year, Le Roux told the commission that Mantashe, former minister of environmental affairs Nomvula Mokonyane and former SAA chair Dudu Myeni received home makeovers paid for by Bosasa.

Journalist Redi Tlhabi also applied to cross-examine former president Jacob Zuma.

Evidence leader Advocate Thandi Norman says the matter was not placed in the list for the day, as Tlhabi had not been informed.

However, Zondo allowed Zuma to submit written submissions opposing the application.

"I want to issue directions. In this matter, the former president did not file any affidavits to oppose the application but simply filed a notice to oppose.

“The directions I'm going to issue are as follows: If Zuma wishes to say anything in opposition to Tlhabi application he must deliver in a written submission on or before Monday 9 December.

"2) If no written submissions are submitted before Monday the chairperson will deal with the application in a manner he deems appropriate.

"3) If he [Zuma] does deliver within the time frame the chairperson will take account of the submission and either announce or invite Tlabi - if necessary - to respond those submissions.”

The dates will be announced at a later stage.
