Zondo vows to do everything in his power to ensure independent judiciary

Chief Justice elect Judge Raymond Zondo says that he will do everything he can to ensure an independent judiciary.
Zondo held a question-and-answer session on Thursday afternoon.
He is due to take over on April 1.
While he admitted that there had been several attempts during Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng’s tenure to capture the judiciary, they were not successful.
“From time to time, one does see certain actions which really appear to be attempts to capture the Judiciary but as far as I know is that the former CJ has never said that those attempts have succeeded.

“So from time to time one does see conduct that seems to come across as attempts but as far as I am concerned those attempts have not succeeded. I will do everything I can to make sure that they don’t succeed. I think it’s a duty of all judges and all people who love our constitutional democracy to make a contribution that such attempts don’t succeed.”
Zondo will soon be assuming his new position as the country’s new Chief Justice, a position he has acted in for the past nine months.
When questioned about his Judicial Services Committee interviews which took place last month and his relationship with one of its members, EFF leader Julius Malema, Zondo said he believes he has the body's full support.
#Zondo says that when he chaired the JSC last year there was full co-operation from the JSC members including Julius Malema.
