The South African Government has congratulated Donald Trump for winning the US presidential elections.

The Department of International Relations and Cooperation says President Zuma conveyed his best wishes to the President-elect and looked forward to working with him to build on the strong relations that exists between the two countries.
"He underlined that South Africa further looked forward to working closely with the new administration in the United States in promoting peace, security and prosperity around the world, especially on the African continent," says the department.
Meanwhile, US Ambassador Patrick Gaspard told the media at his residence this morning that the US/SA partnership remains strong despite drastic changes across the pond.
"Not only is our partnership with South Africa one of the only truly bipartisan things that there is consensus on in the US capitol, but please know that it is near and dear to my heart and I certainly hope to be back here the next time you guys contest your national elections, because that might be just as interesting as our own," says Gaspard.
