Zuma corruption trial postponed to October
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
The fraud and corruption trial of former president Jacob Zuma and French arms company Thales has been postponed to October by the High Court in Pietermaritzburg.
The decades-old arms deal matter was postponed pending an application to the Constitutional Court to salvage Zuma’s failed special plea challenging state advocate Billy Downer’s role in prosecuting him.
The former head of state faces 16 counts of fraud, racketeering, and money laundering charges.
The court postponed the matter to 17 October as a holding date pending the application to the apex court.
"The adjournment is granted on the basis that if the application for leave to appeal has been determined by 17 October, the trial shall commence on 7 November until 2 December. If the trial is not ready to proceed, then a further date will be determined,” said Judge Piet Koen.
