Zuma corruption trial postponed to September

The corruption trial of former president Jacob Zuma and French arms company Thales has been postponed to 9 and 10 September.

The former president faces charges of corruption, fraud, racketeering and money laundering over the multi-billion rand deal.
The case returned to the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Tuesday, but was heard virtually.
Zuma, who is serving a 15-month jail term for contempt, was admitted to a hospital outside the Estcourt Correctional Centre following a routine check-up.
Advocate Dali Mpofu, representing Zuma, proposed that the case be heard in open court on the 9th and 10th of September depending on the conclusion of the medical report.
Judge Piet Koen agreed to the proposal and Zuma’s doctor to provide a medical report by no later than 20 August.
“The date for the medical report to make the debate on the 9th more meaningful should the state not accept the medical report they will require time to instruct an expert of their own choice who might or might not support what Mr Zuma’s doctor says,” Koen said.
At least 217 state witnesses are due to testify once the trial gets underway.
