Zuma determines Civilian Police Act date
Updated | By Neo Leeuw
The Civilian Secretariat for Police Service Act will be operational in April next year, the presidency said on Sunday.
"President Jacob Zuma has, in terms of section 36(2) of the Civilian Secretariat for Police Service Act, 2011... determined 01 April 2014 as the date on which section 4(2) and 4(3) as well as section 14 of the Civilian Secretariat for Police Service Act, 2011 [Act No.2 of 2011] shall come to operation," said spokesman Mac Maharaj.
The Civilian Secretariat for Police Service Act established the Civilian Secretariat for Police as required by section 208 of the Constitution, and provided it with the necessary powers and functions to exercise civilian oversight over the South African police.
