Zuma graft trial postponed for new Downer application

The fraud and corruption trial against former president Jacob Zuma has been postponed to 15 August by the High Court in Pietermaritzburg.

The former president made a brief court appearance on Monday morning for the latest instalment of the long-running arms deal trial.
Zuma and French arms company Thales are facing a number of charges, including fraud, corruption and money laundering in relation to the multibillion-dollar arms deal procurement deal in the late ’90.
“Per agreement, this matter is adjourned to 15th August 2023 for the hearing of Mr Zuma’s second application for the removal of Mr Downer state council as prosecutor in the criminal trial. That application is set to run for two days, that is 15th and 16th August 2023” said Judge Nkosinathi Chili, who has been presiding over the case since Judge Piet Koen recused himself in January.
Zuma has accused Downer of leaking his medical records to the media, which the advocate denies.
