‘Zuma laughing, but not 100% well’ - Foundation

The Jacob Zuma Foundation says it will not disclose the former president’s release from hospital amid heightened interest.
Zuma remains in a military hospital after his health apparently deteriorated last month, only weeks after he began serving a 15-month jail term at Estcourt prison for contempt of court.
Zuma had initially gone in for a routine check-up but his medical team later submitted documents to the State pointing to the politician’s ill-health.
His prolonged hospital stay and undisclosed ailment scored him medical parole.
Zuma’s return home remains highly anticipated.
Spokesperson for his namesake foundation Mzwanele Manyi says his release from hospital will be kept under wraps.
“Due to a frenzy of media enquiries, the Foundation wishes to advise that due to security reasons, the discharge of H.E President Zuma from the hospital will not be announced.
“At the right time subject to Correctional Services conditions, further announcements will be made.”
Manyi adds restrictions by the Department of Correctional Services also play a role in the decision.
“We are taking a security precaution, there has been no death threats or anything of that sort. It’s really all.
“We also need to fully get into grips with the restrictions Correctional Services so those throngs and throngs of people might not be allowed in terms of the various restrictions which at this point we don’t have final word on what those will look like.”
Zuma’s wellbeing has been the subject of public scrutiny since last month.
Manyi says the 79-year-old ANC leader remains unwell.
“He’s a good man so when he sees people, he smiles like a typical grandfather that in the face of adversity must still put up a brave face.
“But the man is not 100% well and the exact nature and all of those things, as you know, we cannot divulge but he’s walking, he’s talking, he’s breathing, he’s laughing.”
