Zuma and co-accused, French arms dealer Thales, are facing charges of fraud and corruption related to government’s multi-billion-rand arms deal of the late 1990s.

The former statesman wanted state prosecutor Advocate Billy Downer to recuse himself from the case.

Zuma claims Downer leaked his medical records to the media.

But his bid was dismissed by the Supreme Court of Appeal last month.

On Sunday, Jacob Zuma Foundation spokesperson Mzwanele Manyi told the media that the former statesman will be in court on Monday.

“The foundation confirms that His Excellency President Zuma will be in the Pietermaritzburg Court on Monday and through his legal team will be responding to the supplementary affidavit served by the NPA where they seek to introduce new evidence of the events of the last few days.

“President Zuma really wants is his day in court, in a fair trial and certainly not in a forum which is being rigged by the State and all the previous unfair and incorrect decisions which will hopefully be corrected by the higher courts.”

Meanwhile, National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Mthunzi Mhaga says they are ready for the trial to commence.

“We are ready to proceed on Monday and we will be opposing any application for postponement as we believe that the matter should resume for trial.”
