Zuma set to appeal judgment sending him back to jail
Updated | By Eva Chipa
The Jacob Zuma Foundation has announced that the former president will
appeal a court ruling against him.
This comes after Judge Keoagile Matojane overturned the decision by former correctional services commissioner Arthur Fraser to place former president Jacob Zuma on medical parole in the High Court in Pretoria on Wednesday.
Spokesperson for the foundation Mzwandile Manyi says the judgement is clearly wrong.
“Just confirm the tweet that we just issued, indeed the legal team of his excellency Jacob Zuma has just delivered his application for leave to appeal in terms of section 17 of the Superior Courts Act on the grounds that the judgment is clearly wrong & there are strong prospects that a higher court will come to a totally different conclusion.”
Matojane also ordered Zuma back into the custody of the department to serve out the remainder of his sentence.
However, a timeframe for Zuma to hand himself over is not yet known, although the court ruled that the time, he spent out of prison do not count towards time served.
