Zuma using ‘delay tactics’ at Zondo commission - lawyer

The commission of inquiry into state capture is entitled to apply for a warrant of arrest if former president Jacob Zuma fails to testify, says criminal lawyer Ulrich Roux.

The legal team representing the former president is expected to apply for the recusal of the commission’s chair, Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo, on Monday.

Zuma doesn’t believe he would receive a fair hearing from Zondo, citing alleged bias and the fact that the judge fathered a love child with the sister of Thobeka Mabida, one of the former president’s wives.

"If you look at the way Jacob Zuma litigated in the past and how dealt in the past it is clear to me that once again it is a clear delay tactic of his,” says Roux.

"The only way that the application for the recusal of the commissioner will be successful is if he can prove the commissioner is not acting in an objective and unbiased manner towards him.”

The commission issued a summons last month for Zuma to appear in front of the commission on Monday.
