Zuma to visit Botswana, Namibia and Swaziland
Updated | By ANA
President Jacob Zuma will travel to Botswana, Namibia and Swaziland this week for consultations with heads of state and government of member states of the Southern African Customs Union (Sacu), the Presidency said.
The consultations were a follow up to the discussions held by the Sacu heads of state and government during the inauguration of the new Sacu headquarters building in Windhoek, Namibia, on November 12 last year, the Presidency said in a statement.
The discussions would also focus on progress made in implementing the Sacu work programme, as adopted by the 2011 Sacu summit. The deliberations would also consider regional, continental, and global economic and trade developments and their impact on Sacu.
Sacu, one of the oldest customs unions in the world, is 105 years old and consists of five members – Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa and Swaziland.
Zuma, the current chairman of the Sacu summit, would be accompanied by International Relations and Co-operation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies and Deputy Finance Minister Mcebisi Jonas, the Presidency said.
Consultations with Lesotho were ongoing to find a suitable date for Zuma’s visit to Maseru. - ANA
