Ainsley Hay, manager of the Wildlife Protection unit of the NSPCA joined us this afternoon, to discuss about the threat that our wildlife faces on a daily basis. It is appalling to hear how much exploitation could be averted if it werent for ignorance.

APPEAL FOR SPONSORSHIP

The National Council of SPCAs (NSPCA) would very much like to send two delegates to the  International Elephant Congress which will be held in New Delhi, India from 14 to 19 November 2013. An overview is below: -

"A pioneering conference of 50 countries from Asia and Africa that harbour wild populations of elephants will discuss conservation and welfare of elephants at New Delhi next November.

The International Elephant Congress and Ministerial Meet (E 50:50) to be hosted by the Indian government in New Delhi will bring together scholars, conservation practitioners and policy makers to discuss issues on elephant conservation policy. The Congress will include conclaves on science, culture and management culminating in a ministerial summit to adopt a vision charter with common minimum global vision on conservation, management and welfare of elephants across all range countries."

The NSPCA’s Wildlife Protection Unit is highly involved in the welfare of elephants and we believe that this is an extremely important Congress and that it would be tremendously beneficial for us to attend, whether as observers, or as a presenter.

There is such varied exploitation of elephants in captivity in South Africa and it is vital to gain knowledge from the varied topics and to gain insight from representatives of countries who will be present at this congress. We add the advantage of networking which is not a luxury but an essential element when issues involving elephant come to the fore: - as they have on two noteworthy occasions. We refer to the Tulu Elephant Case which made headlines world-wide and the most recent issue of deliberately-orphaned baby elephants.

We as MArtin Bester Drive would like to appeal to anyone who is in a position to make any form of donation to these wonderful people, do so using the following bank details:
