The iconic South African news reader and longest serving presenter on South African television, Riaan Cruywagen, will be presenting his last bulletin tonight.

The iconic South African news reader and longest serving presenter on South African television, Riaan Cruywagen, will be presenting his last bulletin tonight.

He started on the 26th of November, 1975 on Nuus om 7 and will be retiring exactly 37 years later.

The name Riaan Cruywagen has become synonymous with Afrikaans news throughout his career.

Cruywagen was also the voice artist for the character Haas Das on the popular Afrikaans children's news programme Haas Das se Nuuskas in 1976.

He also voiced the character when it was revived in a movie Haas Das hou konsert in 2007.

Over the past 37 years Riaan Cruywagen anchored more than 7 000 TV news bulletins, and spent thousands of nights at work during his storied television broadcasting career spanning television but also radio.
