Road closures and safety measures for Ed Sheeran concert
Updated | By Valerie Robinson
Joburg assures concertgoers of improved safety, transport ahead of Ed Sheeran concerts.
The much anticipated Ed Sheeran concert will take place at the FNB Stadium on Saturday and Sunday.
Increased security measures have been put in place following several incidents of crime at the Global Citizen Festival last year.
"Law enforcement and security personnel will work together during and after the concert," says Johannesburg metro police spokesperson Wayne Minnaar.
Roads around the stadium will be closed with officers directing traffic at intersections. The Soweto Highway has been blocked off between the N1 and Booysens. There will be three traffic lanes leading from Nasrec road to the stadium.
Motorists can use the N12 or Main Reef Road as an alternative route.
Alternative transport to the stadium includes the Gautrain that will operate from Park Station, as well as Megabus which will run from Monte Casino, Menlyn Mall, Emperors Palace, Carnival City and the Randburg Dome.
Uber taxi services, which came under fire following last year's events, will have a designated pick up and drop off point making use the parking area at Gate 1 of the Naserec Expo Centre.
Roads are expected to be reopened at 1am on Sunday morning and closed again at 10am for the second concert.
