Former France full-back Poitrenaud joins Sharks

Former France full-back Clement Poitrenaud has joined the Sharks from Toulouse on a one-year contract, the Durban-based Super Rugby franchise announced Monday.

The 34-year-old, who can also play at centre, quit Test rugby this year after making 47 appearances for the Tricolores.
In joining the Sharks he continues a French tradition with compatriots Frederic Michalak, Thierry Lacroix and Olivier Roumat having played for the Durban outfit.
Poitrenaud will compete for the full-back position vacated by Springbok Willie le Roux, who has joined English Premiership club Wasps.
"Clement brings a wealth of experience at international and club levels," said new Sharks Super Rugby coach and former Springbok scrum-half Robert du Preez.
"He is a good acquisition and will provide great mentorship and be a calming influence on the young full-backs in our squad."
Du Preez was promoted from Currie Cup coach last week when Gary Gold quit after two seasons in charge to take up an undisclosed post in the Western Cape.
