Nkwe, who has been in the position on a permanent basis since 2019, is apparently unhappy with the “difficult” working environment at the national cricket team.

“Nkwe has indeed signalled an intention to resign, and this matter is being considered by the board,” Cricket South Africa said in a statement on Monday.

“The chairperson and the acting CEO are currently engaging with Nkwe about his future.”

TimesLIVE, who first reported on the 38-year-old’s intention to resign, says his main gripe is that he feels sidelined from the running of the Proteas and is not involved in the decision-making within the team.

The website also reported that the Proteas team are apparently “riddled with divisions” and squabbling with administrators, players and coaches afraid to speak out for fear of victimisation.

The Proteas will leave the country for a white ball tour of Sri Lanka on Wednesday.
