A swerving long-range ground shot by former Buccaneer Abbubaker Mobara looked to give City all three points, but Vincent Pule’s second goal in the 65th minute handed Pirates a vital point.

It also stretched the Sea Robbers’ unbeaten run in all competitions to six matches.

Cape Town City coach Jan Olde Riekerink was happy with his team’s performance.

“First half I think we dominated, we also got the space to dominate and started to push more pressure and we kept on playing the game. We had a fighting spirit and I feel, as a coach, that is a maximum. We dominated in the first half and in the second half, we got more of a reacting team than an acting team.”

Pirates coach Jozef Zinnbauer says his players failed to finish the goal-scoring opportunities they created.

“I think it was the first half we had good shape, they lead in the first minute of the game and I guess it is football. You have a lot of chances in the first half and in the second half, it was very clear and we had three counter-attacks from City, but we also had lot of chances and we did not have luck as we hit the two poles, and when you don’t score, you cannot win.”
