Mokwena replaces Norman Mapeza, who resigned on Monday, as head coach at the Port Elizabeth-based club.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Chilli Boys said Mokwena’s vast experience as a coach, including stints at Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, will prove invaluable as the club look to secure a position in the top eight.

Liverpool beaten again as Chelsea ease into FA Cup quarters

Klopp made seven changes to the side beaten for the first time in 45 Premier League games at Watford on Saturday, but still named a far stronger XI than the youthful teams that had seen off Everton and Shrewsbury to reach the fifth round.

“Having worked with both Mamelodi Sundowns and having steered Orlando Pirates during the current season, Chippa United is confident that he will prove to be an asset on all facets, including development.

“Chairman of the club, Mr. Siviwe Mpengesi welcomes the head coach and would like to express his appreciation to Orlando Pirates FC and pledges to give necessary support to coach Rhulani.”

Mokwena will be joined at United by Michael Loftman.

His first game in charge will be against Bidvest Wits on Saturday.
