Covid-19 leads to cancellation of Rainbow Cup clash between Stormers, Lions
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
The Pro14 Rainbow Cup SA match between the Lions and the Stormers, which was scheduled for Saturday at Cape Town Stadium, has been cancelled.
SA Rugby CEO Jurie Roux says the decision followed a positive result from scheduled testing of the Lions squad.
"The decision was taken as part of prescribed precautions advised by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) to limit the risk of further infection in the rugby community," Roux said in a statement.
The Stormers will be awarded four log points due to the cancellation of the match.
"The Emirates Lions have followed all protocols and taken all the appropriate steps. While the cancellation is unfortunate, their approach ensures that the risk of cancellation of their match against the British and Irish and Lions in the Castle Lager Lions Series on 3 July is well managed,” said Roux.
