CSA awaits ‘imminent’ forensic report on Moroe

Cricket South Africa (CSA) says it’s only a matter of time before it will be able to provide clarity on the future of suspended CEO Thabang Moroe.

Moroe was suspended in December last year following reports from its social and ethics committee, and the audit and risk committee.

The reports apparently exposed possible failure of controls at CSA.

Now, CSA president Chris Nenzani says that the first part of their independent forensic audit and investigation into Moroe is due to drop on Friday.

“We appointed Fundudzi Forensic Services in February and they to do their work on the 6th of March and the reason for that is that the board did not only say the forensic investigation should focus on management but we also say that forensic investigation must also focus on whether the board had adhered to the CSA’s governance framework as well,” says Nenzani.

“The company had to do a lot of work and we gave them period that they could go 24 months back and look at all the processes, management decision, board decisions.”

He adds: “They will give part one of that report to CSA by the close of business today and then the second part will be available to CSA before the 30th of June this year.”

South African cricket restarts with three-team format

Three teams of eight players will contest a single 36-over match at Centurion's SuperSport Park on June 27. Each team will face a total of 12 overs, split into two halves of six overs. Each half will be against a different team. Most of South Africa's top players will be in action.

CSA will then make a determination based on the findings.

The organisation made presentations to Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Sports, Arts and Culture on Friday.

Nenzani assured the committee that CSA remains resolute on cleaning its house, including ensuring transformation within its ranks.

“The nature of cricket, we are trying o change so that we introduce more women leaders into the upper echelon of the administration of cricket.

“We are quite cognizant that this is a key demographic constituency within our country.”
