Clinton Larsen has resigned as Bloemfontein Celtic head coach, the Free State club announced on Monday.
The 4-0 drubbing at at the hands of Mamelodi Sundowns in the Telkom Knockout Cup probably sealed his fate after a stuttering start to the Absa Premiership.
Assistant coach Boebie Solomons will take over in a caretaker capacity.
Reports suggest Manqoba Mqithi is the man earmarked to replace Larsen after he tendered his resignation at Golden Arrows, amid rumours of management interference.
Celtic are 11th on the Absa Premiership log with a poor return of just six points from six matches.
Larsen's resignation proves again how short fans and club management's memories can be.
Larsen won the selfsame Telkom Knockout Cup with Punya Sele Sele last season. Their next match is at home to in-form Moroka Swallows on October 22.
