[LISTEN] Du Plessis: Supporters have a right to be angry, emotional

There was no hero’s welcome for the South African cricket team at OR Tambo International Airport following their arrival home on Monday after crashing out of the tournament.

They arrived in England with high hopes but could only win three out of nine matches.

“Fans have every right to feel the way they feel. We as a team feel exactly the same emotions - we are going through the same stuff - disappointment, hurt, embarrassment,” said du Plessis during a press conference.

He says the team gave it their all during the tournament.

"The tanks of the guys are emotional and physically empty."

Du Plessis also apologised to South Africans for the poor performance.

"Yes, be angry, be emotional, but be glad we won against Australia in our last game. It was a tough game."

He confirmed that he'll soon announce his future plans once the dust of a disappointing World Cup campaign has settled.

The 34-year-old batsman says not only is his career approaching a defining moment - but that of the older players as well.
