[LISTEN] Sobbing Steve Smith apologises to parents 'for the pain I've caused Australia'

Disgraced former Australia cricket captain Steve Smith has apologised for his part in the ball-tampering scandal that has rocked the sport.

Smith addressed the media upon his arrival in Sydney.
Smith and his vice-captain David Warner have been banned from cricket for 12 months for using sandpaper to tamper with the ball in the third test against South Africa.

Both players have also been ejected from this year's Indian Premier League, losing contracts worth up to $2 million each.
Opening batsman Cameron Bancroft has been banned for nine months.
Smith says he takes "full responsibility" for the scandal as he was the captain of the team.
